A Family Affair

Sharon Morton's family
For most families, the Thanksgiving holidays are an opportunity to gather together and the Jubilee family is no different.
Jubilee Banquet Facility is a family affair. Sharon Morton opened Jubilee three years ago so the community could have a place to gather and celebrate all the events in their lives. Not only has the community embraced Jubilee, Sharon’s family whole-heartedly support the facility. During events at Jubilee, you can see Sharon’s husband, Rob, setting up tables or her son or oldest daughter serving drinks or cleaning up after the event. Sharon’s youngest daughter is the creative one in the family and helps her Mom by preparing signs for different events.
Since Sharon’s family is so involved with Jubilee, it makes sense that her extended family gathers in the Blue Room every year for Thanksgiving dinner. When the family discuss where to hold the annual feast, everyone unanimously says, “Jubilee.”
In order to spend quality time with family, Jubilee is closed at noon on November 24 and will re-open November 27.

Tips for Planning a Honeymoon on a Budget
Tuesday, October 26th, 2010 | Wedding Planning Tips | 1 Comment

The beach is a popular honeymoon destination
In this economy, everyone seems to be stretching their dollar to make it go further. As a couple begins their married life together, it’s good to know that they can plan the honeymoon of their dreams - - even if they’re on a budget.
Here are some budget-conscious ideas for planning a honeymoon:
* Work with a travel agent. Often, thanks to their high-volume business, travel agents can save you money on travel packages. Whether you’re flying or driving to your destination, they have inside information on travel plans which can not only save money, but also time and stress.
* Travel to an off-season locale. With a little research, finding an off-season destination is not too challenging. Off-season does not necessarily mean bad weather. For example, tourist travel to some beach destinations slows down after Labor Day which means deals are up for grabs. Also, the weather can still be pleasant late into Fall. Just make sure activities and hotel services are still available during off-season travel.
* Consider all-inclusive package deals. Resorts or cruises that offer all-inclusive packages are great for couples who don’t want to be surprised by extra expenses. Make sure to read the fine print and be aware what is included in your package deal. Some all-inclusive packages do not include tips, alcoholic beverages or airport shuttle services.
* Make sure to let everyone know that you’re on your honeymoon. If possible, some airlines upgrade honeymoon couples to first class. Also, hotel staff sometimes provide gift baskets or certificates for their services for couples on their honeymoon.
These suggestions are simple cost-cutting measures for couples who are looking to save money when planning a honeymoon.
What budget-friendly ideas do you have for honeymooning couples?
Engaging Your Senses

Sample an assortment of chocolates at a chocolate tasting event
Fine chocolates can be compared to fine wines. Each has a distinct flavor, aroma and texture. Also, both can be tasted and appreciated in a social setting for the sake of comparison and discovering new products.
Chocolate tasting parties are becoming as popular as wine tasting events and more people are beginning to understand the combination of flavors that make up fine chocolate.
When conducting a chocolate tasting event, there are some things to consider. First of all there is no “right” or “wrong” taste. We all have a different set of taste buds and we all react differently to tastes, textures and aromas. When sampling chocolate, each person should learn what pleases them personally.
To achieve the most pleasurable experience when tasting chocolate, you should fully engage all your senses.
When you look at the chocolate, examine the color. Is it a reddish-brown or a rich, deep brown? Does it look glossy or does it have more of a matte finish?
Next, take a minute to appreciate the aroma. One tip to release the aroma is to gently rub the piece of chocolate with your thumb. To isolate the aroma, you can cup the piece in your hands, like you’re holding a brandy snifter. Some chocolates have a floral or fruity hint. Milk chocolates can give off cream, milk or malt aromas. Dark chocolates can have a variety of smells. Roasted coffee, nutty, dried fruit or even wine are all aromas that can sometimes be detected in a sample of dark chocolate.
Now, it’s time to taste the sample. Snap off a piece and place it your mouth. Resist the urge to chew and let the sample go to the roof of your mouth. Let your tongue pass over the bottom of it. How does it feel as it melts? Is it smooth and creamy? Does it feel hard and waxy? Grainy? Powdery? Dry?
Now, sample a piece and see what the chewing experience feels like. Is it sticky, gummy or cake-like? How long does the flavor stay in your mouth.
The wonderful thing about tasting chocolate is that it doesn’t require any experience or expertise. And, with practice, you’ll discover what chocolates appeal to all your senses.

A Look at Reception Centerpieces
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments
Without a doubt, one design element at a wedding reception that indicates the ‘flavor’ of the event is the table centerpieces. Whether they are created by a floral design team or by crafty bridesmaids, the concept is the same: centerpieces should capture the spirit and theme of the wedding and should not obstruct the view.

This centerpiece works because it has interesting design elements. The height provides drama and still allows guests to converse with each other from across the table.

This centerpiece is beautiful. The organic nature of the piece really captures the ‘feel’ of this wedding. Also, this look can be achieved by a floral designer or can be a DIY project.

This is another gorgeous and simple DIY centerpiece. Floating flowers and candles provide romantic ambience for any wedding.
The wonderful thing about all of these centerpieces is they can be easily created. Make sure to check with the reception venue to see their guidelines on decor. With Jubilee Banquet Facility, many of these design elements are available to rent. For more information, call Jubilee, 865-938-2112.

Wedding cake by Alicia Fugate
The focal point at a wedding reception, besides the bride, is the wedding cake and Alicia Fugate’s wedding cakes are scrumptious works-of-art that deserve the attention they receive.
Award-winning creations that look as amazing as they taste are what you can expect from Alicia’s Cakes for All Occasions.
Alicia got involved in the cake baking business when her grandson turned one.
“I swore I’d never bake another one again,” Alicia joked. She said she spent eight hours creating a Barney cake for her grandson.
Fourteen years later, she’s still baking and pleasing customers and their guests. After her grandson’s birthday, Alicia said she decided she would continue with the craft since she had all the tools. She took several classes in Atlanta and learned everything about fondant, pastillage and gum paste. In fact, Alicia excelled at these classes and she was invited to come back to teach them.
Alicia’s cakes not only look amazing, they taste wonderful also.
“I’ve developed my own recipe,” Alicia explained. “The cake needs to be able to stand up under the fondant. And, it has to be moist and taste good.”
Sculpting and working with fondant, pastillage and gum paste is Alicia’s specialty. She can create almost any object into a three dimensional shape to place on a wedding cake, groom’s cake or birthday cake.
“I’ve done some interesting designs,” Alicia said. In addition to many University of Tennessee themed cakes, she said she has done a “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme on a topsy turvy cake, a Darth Vader cake and a one-of-a-kind Chuck Norris groom’s cake. If a customer can dream it up and provide a picture to use as a template, Alicia can create it and that’s why she’s one of Jubilee Banquet Facility’s preferred vendors.

Jubilee Banquet showing spirit
Preparation is the key to winning the game and it’s also the key to making sure your tailgating party is a success.
Whether you’re hosting the pre-game party at your home or in the stadium parking lot, advance planning is necessary for you to be able to thoroughly enjoy the event. Here are some tailgating party tips.
Serve food that can be prepared ahead of time so that you can enjoy the company of your guests. Finger foods, such as chicken tenders, mini sub sandwiches and chips and salsa are crowd pleasers. Also, don’t forget the cold beverages. Flavored iced tea or lemonade are perfect for warm afternoons.
Disposable plates and cups make clean up a breeze. Look for these items in your team’s colors for a festive table setting.
Don’t forget to provide the essentials like tablecloths, trash bags, a bottle opener and plenty of ice.
To avoid the crowds, try watching the big game with friends at Jubilee Banquet Facility. Ample parking, a big screen television and savory menu items are great reasons to root for your team in one of Jubilee’s party rooms. For more information, call 865-938-2112.
Summer Means BBQ
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Nothing says summer like BBQ chicken
When we think of summer, we think barbecue. Nothing hits the spot like a mess of ribs, pork or chicken slow cooked to perfection.
Outdoor grilling is perfected by trial and error. Safety is the number one thing to consider when cooking outdoors. Combining heat and an open flame can be dangerous. Taking precautionary measures is a must.
Always keep a fire extinguisher handy when grilling outdoors and always have at least one person monitoring the fire and the grill at all times.
Food safety is also another important factor when grilling outdoors. It’s important to keep food covered and at the appropriate temperature. This website provides all the information on internal food temperature: http://www.barbecuen.com/temp.htm
If you love barbecue, but don’t want to go through the hassle with the preparation and grilling, check out Jubilee Banquet Facility’s mouth-watering themed menu, Nate’s BBQ.
Premium, pulled pork shoulder with Chef’s vinegar based, red barbecue sauce and grilled chicken breast brushed with apple barbecue sauce are the buffet entree selections at Jubilee Banquet Facility.
All good barbecue comes with scrumptious sides. Nate’s BBQ menu offers iceberg salad with assorted dressings, baked beans and chilled potato salad. And, save room for dessert, chocolate sheet cake.
If you have a crowd to feed, whether it’s tailgating for the big game or celebrating a birthday, let Jubilee Banquet Facility host the event.
Bring your appetite and we’ll provide the extra napkins.
